Beautiful Greek Architecture Inspired By Its Captivating Natural Setting

greek house

By the 1920s, the newly rich and wannabe powerful in the real estate and movie industries were increasingly using in-vogue classical architecture to denote status and demand respect. In 1924, Francis Montgomery built Sunset Plaza on what became the Strip, anchoring what was essentially a shopping center with four white Georgian Revival structures. The Getty Villa is an educational center and art museum located at the easterly end of the Malibu coast in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States.[2] One of two campuses of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Villa is dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria.

Inside, these homes have high-quality furnishings, spacious verdant courtyards and porches, and great resources such as computer libraries. UC Berkeley has always distinguished itself as an institution with high academic standards and a politically active student population. As the state’s oldest land grant university, it also has a long-standing Greek life community. It is home to nationally prestigious fraternities, including Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha. That means plenty of great restaurants, museums, farmer’s markets, and plenty of other things to do just a short train ride away.

The entrance area offers a sweeping view over the whole site and of the sea, creating a lasting impression. The suites are clustered together like boxes, with exterior walls made of stone and timber and placed along the sloped land, descending towards the sea. The common areas offer a combination of large and small spaces, with airy decors and fresh, tropical influences. The upper floor houses three bedroom suites and there’s an additional basement floor where all the storage and service areas are situated along with the garage. This summer home from Pyrgos manages to blend in really well with its natural surroundings. Its modern architecture has intentionally been kept simple and modest and the earthy color tones are a perfect fit for this region. The house was designed by studio Kapsimalis Architects and has a rather interesting layout.

This is another really beautiful house from Mykonos, with a very light color palette all around the exterior. It’s not actually a recent construction but in fact a 30-year old structure which was renovated in 2019 by studio ARP (Architecture Research Practice). Like most other Greek summer homes it enjoys an unobstructed view towards the sea. It’s not just a single volume but a collection of different spaces and extensions which have been added over the years, all complementing each other and creating a very charming complex. The house has bedrooms in total and serves as a retreat, a place where the owners can spend time with family and friends and enjoy the magnificent scenery and the tranquility that surrounds them.

To the right of the foyer is the south-facing dining room, which measures 213 square feet. From there, you can take a half-flight of stairs down into the heated four-season greenhouse, which measures 235 square feet and is filled with lush plants and a koi pond. Next to the greenhouse is the massive 480-square-foot music room, boasting 10-foot ceilings and a fireplace, as well as French doors to the backyard. To the left is the 270-square-foot living room, which features another fireplace and tall wood casement windows that overlook the front lawn.

Tucked behind brick walls and towering evergreens, the five-bed, 5.5-bath home, which measures 5,376 square feet, is a historic beauty one street off Harvard Square. One man who seems to have realized the transformative power of a neoclassical home was John Elridge Sterns. As LA historian Duncan Maginnis explains in St. James Park Los Angeles, Sterns, who had made a small fortune in the Midwest, came to Los Angeles ready to make a big social impact. In many ways, the adoption of classical styles in SoCal made a great deal of sense. As Holliday notes, here was a chance to start the American experiment over, in a truly idealized setting, a chance for these homeowners to become the powerful and prestigious people who had typically shut them out in their home states. He became a peanut wholesaler, investing in roasting equipment to supply the “Greek Fleet” of street pushcart operators peddling peanuts downtown, Mellos said. Inside, a living room with a sunken sitting area has a gorgeous view of the sea through a large panorama window. To create this sense of continuity between the house and the sea, the architects added an infinity pool in front of the living area.

The university has two Greek Rows, one on the east and one on the west sides of the massive UCLA campus. Is far from the most inexpensive Cali college town, but that pays off with the fantastic amenities and entertainment options the big city provides. But nowhere in Los Angeles County adopted the grandiose neoclassical styles more than the city of Pasadena, settled by wealthy, white, retiring Midwesterners striving for Christian gentility mixed with a sunny status. Spearheaded by the fascinating astronomer George Ellery Hale (member of the Pasadena city planning commission), the city center was laid out based largely on “City Beautiful” principles. Minimalism is also a defining characteristic for this house located in Porto Heli. It was completed in 2017 by architect Sergey Fedotov and it’s surrounded by gentle hills and beautiful open landscape.

The cantilevered upper level houses the master bedroom suite as well as the guest bedrooms, each with their own walk-in dressing rooms and spacious bathrooms. They enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the sea and they open onto a covered verandah which connects them together. The ground floor transitions seamlessly outside and overlooks a large infinity edge pool and beautiful old olive trees that frame the backyard. The house was adapted to this unique and challenging topography and was built on two levels which interact with the surroundings in fairly similar ways.

In addition to the house and its furnishings, the museum includes a basement-level gallery with photographs depicting the history of the port, the Banning family, and Wilmington. The museum also includes a large display of 19th century stagecoaches located in the barn and a one-room school house adjacent to the house. The gardens include eucalyptus trees (reputed to be the first to be planted in California)[17] and large wisteria vines planted in the late 19th century. UC Berkeley’s Frat Row is right on campus, and many of its oldest Greek Row homes were built in the 1900s in the distinctive Tudor-revival style, giving them a distinctly regal appearance.

It was created in a way that makes it a part of the environment and helps it be in perfect sync with the landscape around it. That meant using natural and local materials and finishes and finding ways to incorporate certain landscape elements into the actual structure and design of the house. Given the proximity to the mountain and the rocky terrain in this area, the house was built using lots of natural materials, in particular stone. What’s also really cool about this site is the fact that it has a view towards the sea.

Although their physical footprint downtown has faded, Greek Americans are thriving throughout Southern California -- and are scheduled to be recognized Friday by the Los Angeles City Council for their century-old presence in Los Angeles. Some of UCLA’s Greek-letter organizations maintain their own private housing adjacent to campus. The average capacity for a fraternity house is 40 students, average capacity for a sorority house is 50 students. Fraternity and sorority housing is generally available the second year of membership and members are encouraged to live in the facility for at least one year.

We start with the University of Southern California, one of the biggest universities on this list, located in the heart of the City of Angels. USC’s frat rankings put it at the top of the list, with a sizeable Greek row. The university’s frat row is just a couple minutes walking distance away from the main campus and just a short Metro ride from downtown L.A.. A spiral staircase descends to a side patio, part of the meticulously landscaped grounds, which also provide access to the greenhouse. A patio that sits under a canopy of evergreens is the ideal outdoor spot to enjoy a cup of coffee. It’s next to the heated swimming pool, as well as cabanas and patios, perfect for a New England summer.

Tips for Installing Roll Roofing

Side Rolls, or rolls that are mounted on a vertical axis and located between passes, are an excellent way to help a profile enter the main roll passes. These are especially good for light- and heavy-gage materials alike. Thinner gages tend to spring, while heavy gages have high lateral forces against the flanges. In addition to smoothing out the forming transition between passes, side rolls also reduce the scuffing of the vertical legs, because they spin on the same axis that the profile travels. Another tip to reduce material scuffing is to idle flange rolls so they are not driven.

So in terms of quantity, a roofing roll is about the size of one composite shingle square. Square is a roofing term that refers to one roofing unit of 100 square feet. Multiple demanding industries rely on metal bending to support their operations. Some examples are Aerospace, Automotive, Construction, Art, Architectural, Residential, Commercial, and more. Other types of metal bending are Rotary, Joggling, Wiping, Folding, and Rolling.

We depend on your specifications and requirements before choosing the best technique to ensure the result exceeds your expectations. These tracks have an exclusive drop flange construction coupled with a fin guided carrier design to ensure quiet, non-fouling and automatically aligning operation. Hammered-down rolled roofing should not be used on flat roofs as this could lead to leaks. Rolled roofing is one of the easiest and cheapest roofing materials you can purchase. Plus, it is one of few types of roofs that most homeowners can install on a do-it-yourself basis, although in a limited fashion.

Roll Forming

The following layout describes how to determine the theoretical radii for the bends. The radii that are calculated are considered a “reducing” or “constant length” type, which means that in every forming pass, the entire “arc length” (.4285”) is being used within the radius. This is why the earlier passes have larger radii, when not completely formed to the finished angle of 90 degrees. In many cases, I like to calculate all the passes using this method, to develop the progression and then sharpen the radii in the early passes slightly to help the section track properly. Paramount Roll & Forming offers superior metal fabrication services, specializing in various metal bending and rolling methods. We have been a trusted manufacturer for many years, allowing us to gain extensive background knowledge in the varying industries we serve.

Maier is still the number one place to find OE replacement bodywork. And in fact, the bodywork on Honda’s 250R is the most sought-after part, as Honda doesn’t make or sell it anymore. Up front, Fourwerx Carbon supplied a new carbon fiber nosepiece that directs some extra air towards the stock radiator. Yes, the radiator was still in good working order after all these years.

There was such high demand for the parts in the late ’90s, Doug stopped racing to concentrate on the business of Roll Design. Throughout the 1990s and into the next decade, Roll had many top stars riding his products. DRI has had its own success nationwide and globally with wins in all major series.

Most sections require a straightening device after forming which removes unwanted twist, camber and bow. These straighteners are normally a “block” type (made from Aluminum bronze or nylon) but can also be done with rollers. The key to straightening is to have the device fairly close to the last pass (between the last two passes if pre-cut strips). The length of the block should be long enough to achieve approximately 1”-1-1/2” of working area (or land), while incorporating a good lead-in and exit radius or taper. The clearance around the profile should have about .015” per side and more at the strip edges. Avoid trying to fully contain the profile because if the device is adjusted it may also affect the geometry of the cross-section.

The volume of the separated solution is increased by 38.2% compared to the prototype purifier. Available in straight, curved, or serpentine sections with standard carriers. The parallel strong-back truss construction and aluminum intermediate supports result in an exceptionally strong and durable assembly.

TWO-STROKEHonda’s original two-stroke 250 evolved with the help of the aftermarket, and eventually you could get multiple sizes of this engine, including 265, 305, 310 and 330cc. This is a great mix of broad power that has been proven to be very reliable over decades. Duncan rebuilt it with a ProX rod kit inside a PC 2000 cylinder kit ($1895) and added a 39mm PWK carb. On the exhaust side, a Paul Turner Eliminator pipe and Fat Boy 2 muffler controlled that sweet two-stroke sound ($599).

A variety of track switching mechanisms are available to suit specific needs. Tru-Roll has been a full service manufacturer of stage rigging equipment, curtain track and draperies for over 70 years. The ease and beauty of Rolli rounds out a key missing gap in a design conscious, functional home. We offer free virtual consultations, free measuring, free fabric samples and install appointments.

Pacific Roll offers a range of metal rolling and bending capabilities, including structural steel bending and rolling, plate rolling, and many  other services. After the estimated strip width is calculated, the flower can now be developed by using the “arc” and “straight” lengths. On typical C-channels, the return leg (bend #2) is the first forming to be done.

Self-important film moguls also increasingly turned to neoclassical styles for their personal palaces. In 1926, newspaper magnate and aspiring politician William Randolph Hearst built his mistress, actress Marion Davies, a 100-room Georgian Revival mansion, designed by William Flannery, on the beach of Santa Monica. Called the “White House” by those aware of Hearst’s political ambitions, it is today the site of the Annenberg Community Beach House, which has columns in honor of the long-gone mansion.

As they have for centuries, churches served then and now as the center of Greek faith and culture. They continue to offer ancient liturgies, Greek language schools, Byzantine music and traditional dance, community festivals and Easter picnics featuring signature red eggs. St. Nicholas is one of 20 Greek Orthodox churches in Southern California; their proliferation mirrors the growth and dispersal of the community. At his studio in Culver City, film pioneer Thomas Ince would build a Southern Colonial-style administration building modeled after George Washington’s Mount Vernon. According to Holliday, Ince chose the style as a respectable response to the scandals that had plagued Hollywood. “Classical allusions could impart to non-governmental agencies, like an electric company, a power and authority that they were not actually entitled to, and lend legitimacy to a dubious enterprise like filmmaking,” he says. One prime example is the 1893 Farmers and Merchants Bank, a classical revival temple in Downtown LA designed by Morgan and Walls, which gave one the sense that the institution had been around much longer than 1871.

4 Bedroom 4 Bath House Plans, Floor Plans & Designs

4 bedroom house plan

They’ll help you determine what type of 4 bedroom house plans best suit your needs and what rooms you’ll need as your family grows. The lot size required for a 4 bedroom house plan depends on whether the layout is one story, two story, or even three story. Speaking of lot size, make sure that you know the "buildable area"within an overall property. Depending on the property's city or municipality, lot sizes can be subject to setbacks, maximum buildable coverage, and other zoning and planning restrictions. So it's essential to do your homework for the area you are considering building.

Cost To Build Report

Either all the kids can have their own room, or two can share a bedroom. In some regions, there is a second step you will need to take to ensure your house plans are in compliance with local codes. Examples of this would be, but not limited to, earthquake-prone areas of California and the Pacific Coast, hurricane risk areas of the Florida, Gulf & Carolina Coasts. New York, New Jersey, Nevada, and parts of Illinois require review by a local professional as well. If you aren’t sure, building departments typically have a handout they will give you listing all of the items they require to submit for and obtain a building permit. All the house plans we offer have a built-in option to construct a basement, crawl space or slab.

Another scenario that may warrant a four-bedroom home is if your children are getting married and starting their own family.

4 bedroom house plan

Traditional bedroom homes are a popular choice for those who appreciate the familiarity and charm of historical architectural styles - and want to keep their home on a single level. Regarding cost, it's interesting to note that a two story house can be less expensive to build than a single story home. The lot size for a two story home can be smaller and thus, may cost less.

All family members can have their spaces and there may even be room for a guest suite. Smaller families may appreciate the flexibility a 4 bedroom house plan provides. A family with one or two children ends up with at least one room (possibly two) to use as a guest suite, home office, or gym. Four bedroom house plans are ideal for families who have three or four children. With parents in the master bedroom, that still leaves three bedrooms available.

Additionally, a two story house has less foundation and less roof area, two areas with high cost. A one story home with a more extensive roof area and foundation, plus a more significant lot requirement, can be the more expensive option. 4 bedroom houses are perfect for a large family or someone who likes to host gatherings because they have space for everyone and plenty of sleeping space. The more space you have in a 4-bedroom house plan, the less likely it is that you'll need a basement. You'll have more overhead space to use for bedrooms, bathrooms, and storage.

As your family grows, you’ll certainly need more space to accommodate everyone in the household. This is where moving to a 4-bedroom house becomes more of a priority rather than a luxury. 4-bedroom house plans allow children to have their own space while creating room for guests, in-laws and elderly relatives. What’s more exciting is that the extra bedrooms don’t necessarily have to be sleeping quarters. You can convert the bedrooms into a home office, exercise room, yoga studio or a game room, depending on your needs and preferences.

Smart Low-Maintenance Landscaping Ideas

Mix and match pots in an assortment of colors and choose plants in varying heights to quickly transform your outdoor space,' Marcus says. 'Switching from ground level beds and borders to raised beds will make planting, growing, weeding and watering instantly easier,' says Henry Blake, Managing Director of WoodBlocX. 'Build your raised beds at a height and width that suits you and your lifestyle and fill with fresh weed-free soil,' he says. Paving ideas are not just for backyards – if you want a more formal, smarter look, then paved landscaping is the way. Especially if your front yard borders a communal lawn, as in this example by Creative Design Maintenance, stone pavers will help create a neat border for your front yard. Pavers are also really easy to clean and require virtually no maintenance apart from an annual clean with the best patio cleaner.

Use durable garden accessories and furnishings.

When planning for a no maintenance garden, opting for native plants, natural stone, or other materials from the local environment are the best places to start. However, it’s important to note that a garden can never be completely low maintenance. The garden was always a big part of Holly's life growing up, as was the surrounding New Forest where she lived. Her appreciation for the great outdoors has only grown since then; over the years, she's been an allotment keeper, a professional gardener, and a botanical illustrator. Having worked for Gardeningetc.com for two years, Holly now regularly writes about plants and outdoor living for Homes & Gardens. 'For a nature-inspired yard, consider adding ground cover plants like clover and creeping thyme,' suggests Mallory Micetich, a home care expert at Angi.

Evergreen Shrubs

Plant them to help insulate and protect the soil, minimize stormwater runoff, and suppress weed growth too. There’s no way around it—container gardens require supplemental water. Water-retentive potting soil and a drip irrigation system can reduce the time needed for this garden chore. If a drip irrigation system isn’t practical for your container gardens, cluster pots together to simplify the watering process. Instead of watering pots tucked here and there around the perimeter of the house, gather all the pots on the patio where they are easily reachable from a single hose. Achieving low-maintenance landscaping is all about applying the adage “work smarter, not harder” to your lawn and garden.

Personalize landscaping stones

Plant a handful of easy-care perennials such as echinacea, salvias, and achillea – all you'll need to do is cut them back at the end of the flowering season. Alternatively, simply scatter handfuls of meadow-mix annuals into a wilder patch of your plot, for a colorful summer display. Our guide on how to plant a wildflower meadow has all the advice you need. The decorative parasol offers shelter from the midday sun, as well as providing a pretty focal point (check out our best garden parasols to grab one of your own). Meanwhile, the outdoor fireplace looks fabulous integrated into the brick wall and will keep everyone cozy as they lounge nearby.

Affordable Outdoor Living Space

Consider an acacia or magnolia – both perfect trees for smaller outdoor spaces. These front yard landscaping ideas are specifically for smaller outdoor spaces. You don't need acres or a massive lawn to pack in a punch with some clever planting and hardscaping, as these beautifully-designed front yards prove.

This palatial home is accompanied by a similarly vast backyard that is beautiful to look at but difficult to care for. The addition of evenly-spaced square slate pavers is a simple yet clever solution. You can still see the grass peeking out between the stones even though you’ve significantly reduced the area that has to be mowed. Simply use a handheld electric yard edger to trim the grass around the tiles. A zeroscaped yard contains very few plants and is largely composed of hardscape elements such as gravel, walkways and retaining walls. The select plants that are incorporated into this form of landscaping include cactus, succulents, and native plants that require very little water.

"We have a rain barrel and it attaches to the downspout, so all the water comes off the roof of your house," says Peyton. Hybrid tulips are a favorite of gardeners for their bright colors and showy blooms, but many varieties tend to peter out after a year or two. Choose long-lived tulip varieties, daffodils, crocus, glory-of-the-snow, and muscari that will naturalize in the landscape and provide many years of low-maintenance color.

Succulents also give your landscaping a sculptural quality that you can’t get with regular grass lawn. It acts as a lawn replacement and can be mowed if desired, but only needs to be watered about twice a month. “Simplicity is one of my favorite landscape strategies, as it’s underutilized but can be extremely effective,” Yost adds. For a sophisticated look that requires minimal effort, she recommends creating masses out of pared-down complementary plantings.

Gravel can be either man-made, which is ideal for high-traffic areas, or natural (smoother but less stable—so use where traffic is light). To keep the space looking spiffy, banish errant leaves as necessary with a wire-tined rake. For amazing summer scent in a sunny part of the garden, you can't beat Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile', while hydrangeas (now very fashionable again) are perfect for shady spots. For super-size flowers that last right through summer, go for 'Annabelle'. No plant can be said to be entirely maintenance free, but evergreens certainly come close – and a border full of lush evergreen plants can look amazing.

One wing of the home has been wrapped in honey-toned wood planks, which have a warm and welcoming vibe. Meanwhile, the rounded garden mound in the front yard helps soften the lines and angles of the house. A semicircle of orderly paving stones helps bridge the gap between the styles. If you like exercising and playing games, a multi-sport game court might be a good fit for your backyard. These multipurpose paved courts can be used for a variety of sports, including basketball, volleyball, and tennis. They also take up a lot of space, so you’ll have minimal greenery to tend.

Where to Find the Famous Palm Tree-Lined Street in Beverly Hills

palm house

We happened to find this location by surprise when we stopped by to take some photos of the famous Beverly Hills sign. The sign is located at Beverly Gardens Park, which is typically a busy tourist destination (you’ll see tour buses here). There are a handful of parking spots here, but they are usually full, so your best bet is to find street parking. After snapping a few photos, we weren’t sure if this was THE spot we were looking for. It just didn’t have that perfect shot of the classic lined trees, so we decided to try another location.

The Bismarck palm is one of the most stunning ornamental palm trees for a California garden landscape. This short palm is identified by its huge fan-shaped fronds, bluish-green or steely-blue color, and single stout trunk. This easy-to-care-for decorative tree adds bold color and texture to any landscape in warm climates. The Mexican fan palm grows up to 40 to 80 ft. (12 – 24 m) tall with a small rounded crown 8 to 10 ft. (2.4 – 3 m) wide. Like the native California fan palm, dead fronds on the Mexican palm form a dense skirt at the top of the trunk.

We like that they are open early (7 AM) since it’s hard to find a coffee shop in this area that is open before 8 AM. If you are visiting Beverly Hills and aren’t able to take photos in the morning, the third location on our list is a fantastic spot to take pictures. We visited this location on a Sunday afternoon and saw a handful of others taking photos here as well. Not quite the answer we were looking for since we didn’t have the luxury of time to drive around Beverly Hills all day. What we needed were the exact cross streets to type into our GPS. Then, a tail-finned postwar America began gathering under the invigorating desert sun.

An unusual feature of the beach palm is the flowers that look like yellow corn-cobs on a long stick. The multi-branching palm grows more as a shrub than a palm tree. It’s a drought-tolerant, heat-loving shrub-like palm that grows in inland Southern California landscapes, coastal regions, and beach gardens. The small jelly palm tree grows 12 to 15 ft. (3.6 – 4.5 m) tall. In smaller species, the tips of the arching leaves almost touch the ground, covering the pineapple-like stem.

The jelly palm or pindo palm is a small, slow-growing palm tree with arching feather-like fronds that curve to the ground. The cold-hardy palm tree is characterized by its dense crown of light green to bluish-green leaves 5 to 10 ft. (1.5 – 3 m) long. The date-producing palm has clusters of small flowers that are reddish-orange, purple, or greenish-yellow, followed by edible orange fruits. The Kentia palm is a slow-growing non-native palm tree that commonly grows in California. The elegant and stately palm tree has arching, feather-like, deep green leaves measuring 12 ft. (3.7 m) long. The huge fronds have finger-like, pointed leaflets drooping from the central petiole, giving the palm a graceful appearance.

America’s first all-metal-and-glass house is reborn in Palm Springs

However, it collapsed the day before its official opening in 1830. This slow-growing, heat-loving palm tree is drought-tolerant and ideally suited to arid climates. The San Jose Hesper palm grows 40 to 60 ft. (12 – 18 m) tall. Its tolerance to drought and hot temperatures make it an ideal palm tree for growing in arid landscapes.

Investigators say all three men were involved in Daniels' death that afternoon on Bayberry Drive, just west of U.S. 1 near the Lake Park Marina. Crime scene investigators recovered 32 shell casings fired collectively from three 9 mm handguns, an arrest report said.

The plantings simulate this multi-layered habitat, with canopy palms and other trees, climbers and epiphytes down to the shorter understorey plants and dwarf palms. No one had ever built a glasshouse on this scale before and to do so the architects borrowed techniques from the ship building industry which may explain why the Palm House looks like the upturned hull of a ship. Today the Palm House is one of Kew’s most recognisable buildings having gained iconic status as the world’s most important surviving Victorian glass and iron structure. Another identifying feature of the king palm is its smooth lime-green crown shaft. Additionally, the tall California fan palm has a moderate growth rate, averaging about 1.5 ft. (0.5 m) per year. However, the native palm typically grows slower in residential landscapes, making it an ideal landscaping palm tree for medium to large-sized gardens.

Gambino said the Glassell Park area where the home is located is popular among artists, musicians and actors. "This is definitely the exact kind of house where you would dream," Gambino said in an interview with USA TODAY. "It's a very special house where people immediately get, you know, emotionally connected when they're there."

A bevy of builders emerged to fill a new need for mass-market housing, spurred by the city's growing year-round population and an increasing demand for vacation homes. Chief among them was the George Alexander Construction Company, headed by the father-son team of George and Robert Alexander, successful builder/developers from Los Angeles. They arrived in 1955 with an able track record of single-family subdivisions in LA. and, more importantly, a keen interest in pioneering architecture. The rounded shapes of Kew were often followed in the 19th century.

In addition to fan-shaped leaves growing on spiny petioles, the ornamental palm has short clusters of bright yellow flowers that ripen to brown fruits in the fall. Also called the seashore palm, this beach palm tree grows well in sandy soil and tolerates salty air from the Pacific Ocean. This shrubby palm has leaves that grow from an underground trunk straight out of the ground. Shiny, deep-green lance-shaped curling leaflets cover the long petioles. Despite being a non-native palm in California, the Canary Island date palm is one of the state’s most recognizable palm trees.

The native California palm palm is identified by its beautiful fan-shaped fronds of waxy gray-green blades. This impressive palm tree has arching leaves 3 to 6 ft. (1 – 1.8 m) long and huge sprays of white tubular flowers up to 15 ft. (5 m) long. Palm house is a term sometimes used for large and high heated display greenhouses that specialise in growing palms and other tropical and subtropical plants. In Victorian Britain, several ornate glass and iron palm houses were built in botanical gardens and parks, using cast iron architecture. Especially in English-speaking countries outside the British Isles, these are often called conservatories, in the UK mainly a term for small glass structures attached to houses.

The Bismarck palm is also on the list of native palm trees that thrive in Florida. The beautiful queen palm tree grows 50 to 70 ft. (15 – 21 m) tall with a spread of 20 to 30 ft. (6 – 9 m). It thrives in USDA zones 9 to 11, with a fast growth rate of 2 ft. (0.6 m) per year. In addition to houses in Palms, there were also 5 condos, 1 townhouse, and 10 multi-family units for sale in Palms last month. Palms is a supremely walkable neighborhood in Los Angeles County with a Walk Score of 90. Palms is home to approximately 27,363 people and 5,037 jobs.

The flame thrower palm tree is a single-stemmed palm with feather-like pinnate palm leaves, a bright green crown shaft, and clusters of small purple flowers, followed by bright red fruits. The unusual feature of this tropical palm tree is the newly emerged leaf that is red to maroon—hence the name “flame thrower” palm. The streets of Los Angeles—from Beverly Hills to the base of the San Gabriel—are famous for tall, slender palm trees, topped with rounded crowns of feather-like arching fronds. Most Los Angeles palms are Mexican fan palms (Washingtonia robusta) that were introduced by Spanish missionaries. Also called the European fan palm tree, this shrub-like palm grows 6 to 15 ft. (1.8 – 4.5 m) tall.

Expert Review of Margaritaville at Sea Islander ship

margaritaville cruise ship pictures

Whether you want to wind down, stop by the spa, chill by the pool, or kick back in your stateroom, every second aboard Margaritaville at Sea is a chance for adventure. Some cabins have a balcony or a porthole looking out on the ocean, while interior cabins have no windows (but benefit from the lowest rates). Margaritaville at Sea will take you from relaxation to revelry with your choice of stops anywhere in between. Delectable food, St. Somewhere Spa & Salon, live music and shows–from sunrise to sunset and every moment in between, there’s always something exciting happening.

Ultimate Paradise...

In fact, we found the two-day trip somewhat chaotic; with such limited time, passengers are packing in as much as they can, leaning to a fast-paced, occasionally frenzied, vibe. One way you can tell that Margaritaville at Sea Paradise is not a new ship is by its deck plan and layout. Some of the areas of the ship, such as the Port of Indecision buffet, show their age by being more cramped than what you'd expect on newer vessels.

With visual accents that inspire adventure, the ship’s inviting atmosphere will be filled with music, lights, island-inspired sculptures, artwork, scents of the tropics, and more. Lovers of non-stop entertainment will enjoy the Par-A-Dice Casino, Stars on the Water Theater, and various nightclubs while wellness-enthusiasts can stop by the St. Somewhere Spa or Fins Up! With pools, a retail store, and so much more, there is something for everyone.

Included with your cruise fare:

There is also a Margaritaville Coffee Shop located towards the center of the ship. As you might imagine, this coffee shop is quite popular in the morning, but also serves up specialty coffee throughout the day. The cost of the specialty coffee beverages like espresso, Frappuccino, and more runs around $3.50 to $5.00 and change. Jimmy Buffett, the man behind the brand, has humble roots, and many fans like myself recall his days of performing in no-name bars.

If you're a cruise newbie, don't worry -- the majority of passengers on the ship, often up to 60%, are people who have never sailed before. Low fares and the short time commitment draws people who can drive easily to West Palm Beach, both from South Florida and around the state. (Many passengers here receive a meal here in the popular License to Chill package that comes with 10 drinks, an onboard wine tasting and other perks). The included Fins dining room reminded us of the main dining room on any cruise ship, with enough options to satisfy a variety of tastes. Margaritaville at Sea Islander is a completely new way to float into an island state of mind, where the journey is as much fun as the destination. While Margaritaville resorts have long been popular among parrotheads and pirates, the Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, described in a press release as a "floating island vacation at sea," is the brand's first venture into open ocean.

Margaritaville at Sea is a floating island vacation at sea that brings together the brand’s iconic hospitality and resort experiences with the ability to escape and see the world. The inaugural ship, Margaritaville Paradise, features 658 casual-luxe cabins with nautical details and colors influenced by the sea, sand, and sky. Amenities include several dining venues, pools, entertainment programming, retail stores, a St. Somewhere Spa, Fins Up!

Night Key West & Cozumel

Margaritaville at Sea Islander's only 4-night itinerary features an all-day venture at the tropical island oasis of Cozumel, plus two sun-soaked days at sea. Prepare to change your attitude by changing latitudes when the first cruise ship from Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville brand sets sail out of the Port of Palm Beach, Florida, on April 30. The ship will have 12 stateroom types, from inside cabins to six Signature Grand Suites. The most common stateroom type on Islander are balcony cabins that make up 700 of the 1,105 staterooms. Easy to book and easy to plan, Margaritaville at Sea invites you to climb aboard for nonstop fun, where it’s always 5 o'clock at sea.

At Sea Experiences

It is a ship that’s actually been in service since 1991 and was given a significant makeover during its transition over to the Margaritaville At Sea brand. Attractions Magazine and I were invited to participate in the inaugural media event for one jam-packed night. Here’s what you need to know and what to expect if you decide to book the first Margaritaville cruise experience. The ship will call in three destinations -- Key West, Progreso and Cozumel. The ship's four-night itineraries will only call in Cozumel with two days at sea. The five-night sailings will feature two ports of call, with options including Key West and Progreso, Key West and Cozumel or Progreso and Cozumel.

Still, the Margaritaville branding reigns supreme and gives Parrotheads like me the tropical vibes they crave. Other family-friendly attractions include a mini-golf and cornhole challenge course as well as the pickleball court Paradise Pickleball at Sea. The ship will also have four kids' club, including the Far Out Arcade and Lounge. Set your flip flops free aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Islander with packages and upgrades especially designed to maximize your chill. A massive flip-flop sculpture welcomes guests aboard, encouraging anyone who has not yet shed their sneakers to go ahead and do so. The rooms on Margaritaville at Sea Paradise were all updated before the ship relaunched in 2022, with tropical décor and accents.

Margaritaville at Sea is an exciting new offshore resort experience. The first ship, the Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, will be based out of the Port of Palm Beach with two-night/three-day cruises to Grand Bahama Island. The ship’s experience will offer the fun, escapism and state of mind synonymous with our iconic lifestyle. In addition to the Tiki Bar, other new bars and lounges include the central lounge in the Flip Flop Atrium serving signature cocktails. Ocean-inspired cocktails will be on the menu in the aquarium-themed Coral Reef Lounge and hand-crafted drinks will be served in the intimate Hemisphere Dancer Craft Spirits Bar.

The Margaritaville at Sea Islander is the newest and flagship resort at sea perfectly designed to transport cruisers on fun-soaked escapes to an Island State of Mind. One thing we found extremely appealing, especially for new cruisers, is that Margaritaville at Sea Paradise has no real dress code. There's no formal night, and you can wear shorts anywhere on the ship.

Additionally, the ship will offer onboard leisure activities and entertainment, including the Par-A-Dice Casino, a Stars on the Water Theater, St. Somewhere Spa, Fins Up! The ship was built at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard and entered service as a pioneer ship. She has opened many new markets and frontiers during her lifetime, so it is fitting that Margaritaville Paradise will again be a pioneer for Margaritaville at Sea. Today, Margaritaville announces Margaritaville at Sea, an offshore resort experience. The first cruise ship, Margaritaville Paradise, will offer the fun, escapism, and state of mind synonymous with the global lifestyle brand.

It's fun to watch people feeling their own 'fits -- some people dressed to impress for the club, while others kept it chill. The ocean view cabin has a comfortable king-size bed with plenty of space between the king-size bed and the desk. In the style of cabin I stayed in, on Deck 7, the bed is closer to the ocean view porthole wall, and it gets a little narrow on that side of the bed. In fact, my cabin – as well as much of the Margaritaville cruise experience – reminded me of the Compass by Margaritaville hotel in Anna Maria Sound Florida. The Compass by Margaritaville hotel is a smaller option than the other regular Margaritaville resorts. The select service Compass by Margaritaville hotels have all of the Margaritaville branding that you have come to expect, but features are dialed back a little bit so that they are more of a hotel rather than an all-encompassing resort.

Cruisers also have the option to extend their vacation with a four- or six-night stay at one of two beachfront resorts on Grand Bahama Island. The ship features 658 laid-back yet luxe cabins with nautical details and tropical colors inspired by the sea, sand, and sky. Expect lots of parrots, anchors, and beach vibes incorporated into the décor, plus cabin walls lined with maps of islands on and around the equator.
