For lunch, I did a burrito bowl from BlueIguana and Don did a burger from Guy’s Burger Joint. In retrospect, we should have skipped lunch today as we didn’t realize we’d be preparing….and eating…a full meal at Carnival Kitchen. Yet, our captain was able to safely get the ship pier-side as did Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas.

Select menu items from Emeril’s Bistro are available for an up-charge as well. Going close to an hour beyond the scheduled time, we made it back to the ship just in time for all aboard. Upon returning, we grabbed our afternoon coffees and sat on the balcony cheering on the pier runners. The first portion of this tour was a short drive away for snorkeling at Uvas Beach. I relaxed on a complimentary lounge chair while Don set off on the approximately 45-minute guided snorkel where he saw plenty of fish and a small cenote. While I mostly observed the experience, Don had a fun time preparing these dishes…and enjoying the finished product afterwards.

Speaking of the bed, it was exceptionally comfortable, and I was excited to find that the TV across from it had a sizable selection of free movies (as well as newer releases for a fee). The TV also allows you to watch select live channels and shipboard programming and to check your onboard bill. It was completely different — different color, different taste and different presentation — from what I received when I ordered the same drink on a sailing two months prior. However, the old ingredients were listed on the menu, meaning passengers weren't getting what they thought they ordered.

Pool lifts accommodating up to 300 pounds are available for passengers with limited mobility. There's also a hot tub at Loft 19 on Deck 19, which charges a fee for access. If you're interested in spending time outdoors working on your tan by the pool, you can do so at one of five onboard pools. If you're seeking a between-meal snack or light bite, try the JavaBlue Cafe on Deck 6 in Grand Central. The cafe offers a sizable menu of specialty coffee beverages and tea, as well as free and for-fee snacks. THE ULTIMATE PLAYGROUND
The Carnival Jubilee deck plan centers around the top decks for outdoor activities. The lido deck (Deck 16) is where the bulk of those activities take place. Here, you’ll find the ship’s main swimming pool, flanked by casual grab-and-go food options, bars, lounge chairs and seating nooks. The pool sits below a giant movie screen, and films are shown occasionally throughout the cruise.
The Carnival Jubilee also brings back the extensive dining options available on its sister ships. In addition to a self-service buffet and two main dining rooms, the cruise ship will offer a selection of included and extra-charge venues. I knew there was a reason I was drawn to the Center Stage Bar on Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship and the third in the Excel Class. The bar — along with several other dining venues and the onboard shops — wasn't open during my two-night sailing prior to the ship's first voyage with paying passengers. But each time I passed by it in Grand Central, one of the ship's six zones, I couldn't help staring.
The ship also is vibrant, and finding a spot for a little peace and quiet is difficult, though the adults-only Serenity outdoor deck as well as the Summer Landing, on Deck 8, are lesser-trafficked areas. Where we struggle with Carnival Jubilee is the volume of passengers in any given space pretty much 24/7. This creates lines for virtually anything, from a drink at the bar to a sandwich at one of the ship’s fast-casual restaurants or a slice of pizza. On the topic of Bookville, Carnival’s partnership with Dr. Seuss goes beyond the kids’ library. Other themed events on board include arts and crafts, a character parade, special Dr. Seuss merchandise, and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast. It features character photo ops and menu items like cereal-crusted French toast, “Truffula Tree” pancakes, and — of course — green eggs and ham (yes, really!).
Sharks (ages 9 to 11) are allowed to sign themselves in and out of the club, if parents authorize it. Activities include things like bean bag toss, card games, human Hungry Hungry Hippo, scavenger hunts, movies, face painting and video games. Stingrays (ages 6 to 8) might participate in dance classes, jewelry making, speed stacking, trivia and video games. Activities might include arts and crafts, board games and group games, movies and DIY science projects.
